Description

Ideally situated close to Paddington Station and a wide range of amenities, the hotel offers the perfect venue. From business trips to romantic getaways, Dolphin Hotel can always meet your needs.

Our rooms range from single rooms to family and multi accommodation rooms. This is why we are among the most popular cheap hotels in London, with economical prices that are suitable for all budgets.

History

A Victorian building with many original futures.

The building was built in the 1850',s, originally to house an aristocratic family, as part of a terrace in Norfolk Square. The garden was shared and was commonly used by the Ladies to enjoy their afternoon tea.

The ground floor was used as a reception and dining area, the basement was used as a food preparation area, the first floor was home to the master bedroom, while the second floor offered accommodation to the children. The third &, fourth floors were used by the staff of the families and here, it is interesting to observe that the stairs leading to these floors are narrow while the rooms are a little more basic. One may also like to know that each of these buildings had only one water closet located outside in the back yard.

These properties survived the wars and later were transformed to bedsits, B &, B and finally to hotels. They remain budget hotels as they lack the facilities of a purpose built hotel such as a lift etc.

Number 34 Norfolk Square, which forms part of the Dolphin Hotel, was once owned by a member of the Wedgewood family who used it as their London base.

We have spent a lot of money in order to enhance the futures of the building. Cornices, fire places, door casings among others have been restored as much as possible. The hotel now offers quite a modern life style without losing its original grandeur. The rooms have been upgraded to include en-suite facilities however it has not been possible to install a lift.

The Norfolk Square garden maintained by the Parks division of Westminster City Council offers tranquillity right in the heart of London.

Dolphin Hotel has a stunning and inspiring Victorian heritage and you will appreciate the quintessentially English features of the hotel, many of which have been lovingly restored.
